GEAR UP Manchester Celebrates Graduation of Over 700 Students from Class of 2025

June 23, 2025 – GEAR UP Manchester proudly announces the graduation of 764 students from the Manchester School District high schools, marking the culmination of seven years of dedicated GEAR UP college readiness support and programming. These students, who began their high school journey during the COVID-19 pandemic, have shown remarkable resilience and success, thanks in part to the comprehensive support provided by GEAR UP Manchester.

GEAR UP Manchester’s Impact

GEAR UP Manchester supports students on their transition from middle school to high school and beyond, helping students plan for life after high school whether that be enrollment in a post-secondary option, enlistment in the military, or employment with a livable wage.

GEAR UP Manchester staff have been instrumental in guiding students through their educational journeys, with dedicated programming such as college tours, student leadership opportunities, and summer programs hosted at various colleges and universities across New England. “GEAR UP is amazing,” shared a Manchester West and GEAR UP Manchester graduate. “It helped us strive to go after what we want, no matter what class or background we are from.”

The program has also supported parents and caregivers, offering valuable resources and counseling to help students navigate their educational paths. “I learned as a parent though GEAR UP that it is okay to let your child dream big” said a mother of a Manchester Memorial graduate. “I learned that there are a lot of resources that GEAR UP helps you find. It has been a great resource.”

Funding and Support

With a budget of $1.5 million per year over seven years, GEAR UP Manchester has employed eight in-school staff members to support students transitioning from middle to high school. These staff members have also provided counseling for students planning their futures.

“It has been an honor to serve the students of Manchester over the last seven years of the GEAR UP Manchester grant. These students have shown a desire to figure out their path for after high school and the GEAR UP Manchester staff have been instrumental in helping students navigate their journey,” said Stephanie Lesperance, Chief Strategy Officer of the Education Alliance for New Hampshire (fiscal organization of GEAR UP Manchester).

Student Leadership and Summer Programming

GEAR UP Manchester has offered numerous leadership opportunities, such as participation in the Yale Young Global Scholars program and the Youth Leadership Summit at the NCCEP Annual Conference. Students have also engaged in various service projects and summer programs, further enhancing their readiness for college and careers.

Cultural and Multicultural Support

The program celebrates diversity through multicultural support initiatives, including festivals, cultural food events, student-led presentations, and fashion shows. These activities have enriched the educational experience and fostered a sense of community among students.
